Grandma Sue needs our help

Susan Wingen, Grandma Sue, or Sue Chef....whatever you prefer to call her, is an absolute gem of a human and a mother-in-law. Her caring demeanor and go-with-the-flow attitude have been a joy in my life since meeting her and becoming a Wingen myself. Sue has helped Bryan and I in many of our most difficult moments in life, and we are here to return the favor.

As some of you may know, she has battled Polycystic Kidney Disease and had a kidney transplant in 2013 in Colorado. A few years after the transplant, she also suffered a wound that kept her in the hospital and required multiple surgeries. She once again recovered, enjoying life with her grandkids in Colorado. When we decided to open a brick-and-mortar bakery, Sue came out to California in 2021 to help us. She began working in the bakery and keeping up with tasks around the house for us so we could come home to clean house from long days at work. At the time she was staying in our spare bedroom but with good timing a 1 bedroom cottage behind our house opened up and we moved Grandma Sue in, an official California resident.

Since settling in with us Sue has had more trips to the hospital than we would have liked. That darn wound was causing her problems again. The hospital trips were getting more frequent without any real explanation and we all felt like having her go back to her doctors in Colorado for an evaluation was best.

They immediately performed surgery and she has been recovering with her daughter in CO, but she was recently hospitalized again and diagnosed with Chronic Osteomyelitis. This is a very serious infection and given her history can be very scary if left untreated. Sue is scheduled for surgery tomorrow (June 2nd) and needs our support and love.

We are raising funds for Grandma Sue so that she can continue to pay rent on her 1 bedroom cottage, a place that makes her so happy, and to help support any bills she may need to cover in the coming months. We are still unsure of what a treatment plan looks like but we know that with our support she can overcome anything. Please send her warm thoughts in the coming days and donate if you are in a position to help. No amount is too small and we really appreciate it.

We can't wait to have Grandma Sue back at the bakery greeting you with a smile!
