She was a beautiful wife, a loving mother, and a devoted grandmother. She was born Kimberly Dianne Burley in 1963. She passed away in June 2025, after fighting cancer with every ounce of strength she had. All she wanted was to give everything to her precious granddaughter. She had waited for over 40 years for her eldest child to give her the title she always wanted, "Grandmother." Soon after the baby came, Kim received her diagnosis. So Kim decided she wanted to give that baby everything her grandmother had given her... All the love, independence, and self-worth that Kim had learned at her grandmother's knee she planned to pass on to her beautiful granddaughter. Pancreatic cancer stopped her far short of her goal.
As the person tasked by Kim with finishing what she could not, I think making sure the baby knows her Grandma loves her is even more important now that she is gone.
My goal here is in two parts.
#1 - To have a celebration of life for Kimberly in hopes that the people who were touched by her would want to tell her granddaughter who Kim was. Kim loved to help people. She especially loved children. She would do anything to help any child she met to smile and find happiness, so I would like to celebrate the life she lived.
#2 I want to create a lasting generational place where a young lady can feel safe, be curious, and learn all the things she needs to learn. I'm going to build Grandma Kim's Cabin so Kimberly's two adult children and one precious 2-year-old granddaughter have a place to relax and share all the love, knowledge, and life experiences that Kim did not have the time to share.
I have the skills to build the cabin, and I plan on using sustainable materials in nature for the majority of the build. I just need some help with the celebration of life and getting the cabin project off the ground.
So if anyone has a grandmother that taught them and showed them unconditional love, please help me to build a memorial to grandmothers everywhere. Thank you, and may God bless everyone who has read this story. Respectfully, Weston Straight.
