Grandma J Kicking Cancer to the Curb
In my life I’ve been blessed to know some of the strongest women and so lucky to have them as role models for my children. For my oldest daughter one of those women is her Grandma J.
Judy has always done everything she can to take care of everyone around her but she has always come last. She has helped raise my daughter, making sure my daughter always has everything she needs, especially after her son and I separated and my daughter began living there 50% of the time.
I have watched over the last 13 years as she helped care for family members and friends, including seeing her brother through his last years as he battled pancreatic cancer and being his caretaker around her own busy work schedule.
This woman has never truly taken a moment for herself and to take care of herself. She never likes to ask for any help, being so fiercely independent but if you’re lucky enough to be loved by her then you will know truly how amazing she is even if she will never admit it.
So now it’s our turn to make sure she is taken care of and to know that she is loved and that all her hard work in life is recognized.
It’s now the time that it’s our turn to help take care of her.
Recently Grandma J has been diagnosed with bladder cancer. Within the next few weeks she will begin several rounds of chemo and radiation after having a tumour removed a few weeks ago.
As the backbone of her household, in a home they just moved in to, her being out of work is going to have a serious impact on their bills and life in general.
My goal is to help provide a cushion for them to be able to cover their bills and whatever comes up until the EI coverage kicks in. Whatever little bit will help make it so I know that she has just a little bit less stress going in to this battle knowing that at least it’s one less thing she has to take care of.
If nothing else, I just want to show her that all the years of what she has done for my daughter hasn’t gone unnoticed and that I appreciate it all.
Thank you.
