Gloria Scozzari - Gas Leak Explosion Survivor

Donation protected
My name is Aviana and I am organizing this fundraiser on behalf of my 90-year-old grandmother Gloria Scozzari and her family. Our goal is to raise additional funds to support Grandma Gloria’s financial needs as she recently survived a home explosion caused by a gas leak at her next-door neighbor’s house.

On Wednesday, August 23, 2023, a residential home at 1219 Jackie Lane located in Hancock Village of Santa Maria experienced a gas leak explosion, completely destroying the house in addition to the neighboring house at 1223 Jackie Lane. Our 90-year-old Grandma Gloria, a local Santa Maria resident of over 60 years, lived alone at 1223 Jackie Lane. While we are eternally grateful for her survival of the initial blast, rescue from the wreckage, and continued life-saving care she is receiving at Marian Medical Center, we are now faced with the sobering reality of rebuilding her life.

As of now, there is a significant and immediate financial need due to insurance gaps. We are setting up this GoFundMe so that members of the Central Coast community can aid in Gloria’s convalescence, and help her family to replace essentials that were lost in the explosion. At 90 years old, Gloria was a social butterfly, a woman-about-town, and we know her many friends, along with all those whose lives were touched by her glow are eager to make her life whole again.

The money raised will be used to buy essentials of high importance, such as:
- In-hospital medical care and continuation of routine medical care, including new hearing aids
- Rehabilitation and at-home medical care upon her release, such as a hospital bed
- Extensive dental care
- Ongoing medical care for her dog, Casper (who also survived the explosion), who needs an echocardiogram
- Other expenses related to medical care, temporary housing, and the general rebuilding process

Please consider donating to our beloved 90-year-old Grandma Gloria, a local Santa Maria resident of 60 years, a retired Marian Medical nurse, and who is expected to become a great-GREAT-grandmother in September 2023! If you are unable to donate at this time, please consider sharing our GoFundMe with your friends or family. We will provide updates on Gloria’s condition, evolving needs, and how the money is being used in the upcoming weeks.

Grandma Gloria and her family are incredibly thankful to the local community including Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo County Fire Departments and paramedics, Marian Medical Center, Grandma Gloria’s neighbors, All Valley Pet Hospital, and Santa Barbara County Animal Services, among many others. A million times, thank you!

Other important notes:
Grandma Gloria’s dog Casper, an 8 lb apple-head chihuahua, was rescued from her home, but her beloved black-and-white cat Macy remains missing. If you find Macy or have any information about Macy’s whereabouts, please contact the local Santa Barbara County Animal Services where a missing cat report has been submitted or refer to one of our many flyers posted in the neighborhood and surrounding area.
