Grandad's Trek to Mount Everest Base Camp
Donation protected
Hi everybody,
I’m Michael and I am 75 years of age. In 2021 I sadly lost my beautiful wife of 50 years, Geraldine. There is very little I could say about Geraldine that would do any justice to capture how amazing she was. Being partially sighted (only limited peripheral vision) she was my whole world and I relied on her for so much. In losing her, you could say I lost so much of myself. However, she would not want me to waste any time, which is why I am doing this trek and I know that she is with me every step of the way.
The trek itself is happening in September and will last 2 weeks. I will hike up to the Base Camp of Mount Everest which sits at around 18,500 feet above sea level. I will be hiking a further 1,000 feet and the trek will last 18 days. Temperatures will reach as low as -30 celsius and oxygen levels are 50% what they are at sea level. It is a very punishing and grueling trek but I am very much looking forward to it. I have been training for months walking up to 8 hours at a time and hiking around Glendalough.
I would really appreciate if people could donate anything they can to such an amazing cause!
