Grandads Emergency Medical Expenses and Survival
Donation protected
Asking for help is not something my family would usually do, especially my father. But at a time like this, I know it is something I have to do.
In February 2020, after 7 years of not being able to see each other my Grandpa and Grandma were finally able to fly over from Mauritius to visit us. Since the COVID pandemic struck the world my Grandpa and Grandma have been unable to return home and flights continue to get cancelled. Not being Australian citizen's was always a concern for us, for we knew if illness was to strike one of them, the medical expenses would be far more then what we could afford.
On 11th April 2021 my Grandad's health deteriorated within the blink of an eye. After rushing him to emergency where they immediately began to treat him I watched as his heart stopped for a full 5 minutes before he was resuscitated. Thankfully he is still with us, but has a long recovery ahead of him and is still currently in critical care receiving treatment. We received the first medical bill with a total of $150,000 to be paid with down payments starting immediately so my Grandpa can continue to receive the care he needs.
Our family could not be more thankful for the incredible work the medical team has provided for him and we hope are able to continue to provide.
Any contribution, no matter how big or small, will make a huge difference to my family and relieve some of the financial burden and stress this has caused.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story
