Hello, my name is Black. I was selected as one of the Grand Marshas for SF Pride 2022. I am using "Marsha" instead of "Marshal" as a nod to Marsha P. Johnson one of the founder of S.T.A.R.R. with Slyvia Rivera (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marsha_P._Johnson) and her history of gay rights activism. The history of Marshals in the US is problematic. Marshals were used for hunting down recently freed Slaves and enforce the takeover of land against Indigenous peoples by white settlers moving West. More recently, US Marshals have collaborated with ICE in the detention of immigrants. It is my honor and privilege to be a MARSHA and NOT a marshal. For all of these reasons, I am choosing Grand Marsha as my title. Please come out on the Sunday June 26 and help me celebrate the freedoms and joys of being Gay and Proud.

 

The money raised from this fundraiser will be used for in the following ways.

 

For decorations for the truck

Truck rental

To pay an experienced truck driver for their time

Flyers that well be used to link queer folks with services in the bay

T-Shirts

Purchase of teaser and stun guns for ARM THE GIRLS (a project to help ensure safety for trans and cis women)
