Isletas de Granada Emergency Fund

Nicaragua is experiencing a crisis as a result of  civil and political upheaval and the people are in dire need of help. Peaceful protests and acts of resistance have been met with violent and deadly reprisals. The people seek positive future for their country and families but are facing an uphill struggle to make meaningful, lasting change.

As a result of the crisis, the tourism sector which employs many, many people has collapsed. Most people have lost their jobs with little prospect of obtaining other work. We, at Isleta El Espino, have been doing our best to keep as many employees as possible but as this situation worsens, we are forced to lay off more and more of the staff and greatly reduce the hours of all others. Many of the staff of El Espino are the sole providers for their families and, without employment, will struggle. We, as the owners, can only do so much and therefore, we are asking for your help so until the crisis is resolved and tourists return to this wonderful country, the extended El Espino family in the Isletas de Granada can meet their basic needs.

The funds raised will be distributed among the affected staff of Isleta El Espino so that they can continue to support their families and, in turn, their local community.

Here is a little about some of the people you will be directly helping:

Doña Juanita (housekeeper and healer) lives in the isletas and cares for an extended family
Xiomara (chef) lives in the isletas with her family
Pablo (bartender and server) lives in the isletas
Ana Paula (cook) lives in the isletas with family
Thelma (cook) lives in the isletas with family

Your donation will go a long way to easing the situation for a people of the Isletas.
