"Gramps" Bricker vs. Guillain-Barré
Donation protected
Dear friends, family, and compassionate individuals,
We are reaching out to you today to rally behind a remarkable man, some know as “Gramps Bricker”, who is facing a daunting battle against Guillian-Barre syndrome. Others may know him as Mike, Howard, Mr. Bricker, Gramps, or simply “Brick”. No matter what you call him, if you are reading this, he has likely positively impacted your life. A Korean War veteran, proud father, grandfather, faithful companion, esteemed author, former little league baseball coach, and a resilient native of Chicago, he has touched the lives of many in our community. He always has helped others, but now he needs our help more than ever.
Guillain-Barré syndrome is a rare and debilitating neurological disorder that has affected Gramps’ mobility and overall well-being. His fight has been nothing short of extraordinary. Given minimal chances of survival, he spent more than a month in the neuro ICU, on a ventilator, paralyzed from the neck down. Through sheer determination, he has since triumphed over the worst of his condition. He is no longer reliant on a ventilator or a feeding tube, and he has regained his ability to communicate just as he did before Guillain-Barre struck. He is also making remarkable progress in regaining movement in his legs. He can make a full recovery, however, the road requires extensive and costly medical treatments, physical therapy sessions, and specialized equipment.
His insurance coverage will soon expire. A sudden halt to his much-needed rehabilitation could be devastating and hinder his chances of regaining independence and mobility. His greatest desire is to spend precious time with his friends and family. He envisions dancing at his grandchildren’s weddings alongside his sweetheart, Susan, and cheering them on as they play ball. He believes this will happen and we don’t doubt him!
Gramps is more than just a patient; he is a beacon of hope and resilience in our family and community. We are committed to doing everything in our power to support him on his journey, but we cannot do it alone.
Please consider donating and spreading the word about our campaign through social media, email, or any other means available to you. Every donation, no matter how small, brings us one step closer to helping him achieve his goals and embrace the joyous moments that life has to offer and allowing him to continue inspiring others with his unwavering spirit. Thank you for your compassion, generosity, and commitment to supporting Gramps Bricker (aka Mr. Bricker, Mike, Howard, Brick) on his road to recovery.
With sincere gratitude,
Susan and the entire Bricker Family
