A young couple in love how can they both be dealt such rough cards in life!! In 2013 Graeme 30 & Katy 28 had just purchased their first property together, newly engaged and enjoying some time with family when Graeme in the middle of the night suffered a stroke which left him paralysed down the right side of his body. Katy was by his side for months in hospital hoping for improvements with his strength, movement and speech but this did not happen as quickly as hoped. Discharge day came and back to Mossman they went to live at Graeme's parents place. In 2015 after doing months of gruelling physiotherapy treatment and speech therapy Graeme was showing signs of improvement with his mobility and speech. Katy returned to work with the cane crushing season in Mossman, everything was looking up for them, they could start planning there future together marriage, family and enjoying time together. But over the next few months Katy at 30yrs was starting to feel quite lethargic and unwell herself. Katy managed to get herself in to see a doctor on her day off, she had bloods done but unfortunately the results came back with low iron levels and a high white blood cell count she was then booked in for a scan. The scan showed she had a 5cm tumour on her cervix, Cancer the most horrible disease. Katy was then flown to Brisbane for further CT scans and MRI's. Unfortunately the tumour was to close to her bladder and bowel for a hysterectomy. Katy received numerous rounds of Chemotherapy and then decided to head back up north to recover and spend some time with her soon to be husband and plan there wedding. Katy received her results back and was given the all CLEAR. January 16th 2016 there wedding day, life was again getting back on track, Graeme while still lacking strength on his right side but able to get around again and with Katy cleared of Cervical Cancer what more could go wrong?? There wedding day was perfect, surrounded by there closest family and friends up on there property they were married, but by the end of the night Katy had started to feel quite unwell again, and she knew in her body that the cancer had returned just months after being given the all clear!! Katy went back to Brisbane for scans and it was confirmed the CANCER was back bigger then before and had now spread to her groin lymph nodes. Katy has tried natural remedies, been to Germany twice for treatment but is unfortunately still battling with this horrible disease 3 years later and has to reside with her family down in Brisbane to receive what treatment she can and Graeme has been working for a local trucking company up in his home town of Mossman. They sold there property to help with the financial costs. With them being so far apart and all the money being used for Katy's treatment this ment Graeme and Katy only get to see each other every few months!! After 4 months apart in May 2018 Katy was feeling well enough to head north to spend some time with Graeme but unfortunately the day after Katy arriving home Graeme started feeling dizzy and Katy and her sister noticed his speech was slurring, he was rushed down to hospital where it was confirmed he had suffered another stroke, fortunately this time closer to the surface and only affecting his speech. They both spent a week in hospital and the staff were amazing and able find them a private room so they could be together, Graeme was discharged on Saturday and has gone to Brisbane with Katy so he can continue his speech therapy and Katy can also continue with her treatment and spend some long awaited time together. But this means they have no income and Graeme will be away from work for at least 3 months if after that he is able to return. While our goal here is to try and alleviate some of the financial burden for them we would like to do something extra special so they can enjoy some much needed time together. In the time Katy has been in Brisbane receiving treatments Graeme has been trying to build them a container home on land at his parents property in Miallo, FNQ. These two amazing people deserve so much good to come there way after everything they have been going through they are so close to my heart and we would just love to be able to see this completed for them to enjoy there precious time together.
