Hello, my name is Kyle Gibson. I received a clear call to full-time ministry before my senior year of high school and entered into full communion with the Catholic Church my second year at Oral Roberts University. I immediately thought I would likely become a priest, but I took my time in discernment...about 12 years! I was a high school teacher for 8 of those years after completing my Master of Arts in Theology & Christian Ministry from Franciscan University of Steubenville. I was completing the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program with the government to pay off my debt (Income-Driven Based monthly payments for 10 years and 10 years of service). However, God interrupted my plans my 8th year in the program while teaching at Strake Jesuit; I felt it was time to definitively discern priesthood as a seminarian. The Archdiocese was open to helping me with my debt upon ordination. However, I discerned that I am better fit for the missionary priesthood through various experiences and a lot of time in prayer. I may be able to receive grants from Maryknollto help with my debt if I enter with them, but I feel I should reach out to family and friends for support. Anything you can give is greatly appreciated.
What is next? Well, I am currently staying with family and fundraising the month of August. Then, I will be serving at Ascension Chinese Catholic Mission for the month of September (hopefully, I will be done with Duolingo Chinese before I start). Then, I will be in El Paso serving the immigrant community alongside a veteran Maryknoll Missionary Priest in October. I will travel to New York, to Maryknoll's headquarters and attend an ordination to the diaconate and then return to Eagle Pass. God-willing, I will be done applying to Maryknoll by then and be received into the Society as a Seminarian in Chicago at the beginning of 2024.
