Hello,
How are ya?
I’m Laura Gardner aka Lyfes Good, a multidisciplinary artist and the founder of Club Sandwich; a biannual, submission based publication centred on creative community and collaboration.
For my graduation show, I’m presenting a new project titled Send Nudes, which will also be published in Club Sandwich #2 (open call is currently live; see my Instagram bio for details).
My practice explores body politics through a millennial lens, and in succession body dysmorphia. Using characterisation, satire, and embodied experience, I interrogate gender, bodily autonomy, beauty culture, trauma, and social control - placing my own body at the centre as both subject and site of critique.
Send Nudes extends this through fully self-produced characters exploring male and female counterparts, spanning concept, styling, set-building, performance, and photography. These include figures such as Snack Attack (wearing a dress made of Billy Bear ham, commenting on women as consumable), Walk of Shame (inspired by early 2000s paparazzi culture), A doormat, Old Gregg (embodying the male character we as women have experienced) , Autopilot, Miss Congeniality and more; all drawn from lived experience and exaggerated into recognisable cultural types.
Influenced by Cindy Sherman and Haley Morris-Cafiero, my work acts as a living archive: embracing experimentation, discomfort, humour, and refusal as tools to reclaim agency; ultimately questioning how we see ourselves and how we are seen.
Over the past few years, I’ve balanced my studies alongside working three jobs; gradually stepping away from employment to fully commit to this final body of work. While essential, this has left me with very limited financial resources.
I’m currently trying to raise £500 to support the realisation of Send Nudes and the production of Club Sandwich #2.
Funds will go directly towards:
- exhibition materials and installation
- print production
- book/magazine binding and finishing
The work will be shown for assessment at the end of April, with the final exhibition opening:
28th May, 6–9pm (Opening Night)
Kit Form
37 Jamaica St, Bristol, BS2 8JP
Additional opening hours:
29th May — 12–6pm
30th May — 12–6pm
31st May — 12–3pm
Any support; whether through donation or sharing, would make a meaningful difference at this stage, helping me realise the work as it’s intended.
There will also be a selection of thank you postcards available.
Thank you for your time and support.
— Lyfes Good
