The Biggest Fight of My Life: Gracie Mae’s Battle with Ovarian Cancer
My Story
Hello, my name is Gracie Mae. I am just 19 years old, and I never imagined I would have to write something like this.
A few months ago, my life looked very different. I was enjoying my apprenticeship, spending time with my family, planning holidays, and looking forward to the future. Like most young people my age, I was focused on building my life and making memories with the people I love.
Everything changed last month when I was diagnosed with ovarian germ cell cancer, a very rare form of ovarian cancer. Because it is so rare, I have to travel to London for chemotherapy and specialist treatment. London is over three hours away from where I live, taking me far away from my home, my family, and my friends.
The Impact of My Diagnosis
I am so scared. While I am determined to fight this with everything I have, the journey has been physically, emotionally, and financially overwhelming for both me and my family. One of the hardest parts of all of this is missing the life I had before. I miss my work, my family days out, and the holidays we had planned together.
Some days I find myself wishing I could simply go back to being the happy, healthy young woman I was before cancer entered our lives.
As we all know, cancer doesn't just affect the person receiving treatment, it affects everyone around them. My brilliant family have been by my side every step of the way, travelling more than three hours each way from Congleton to London so they can support me during my treatment. I am so grateful for them, because it gets a little scary and lonely being so far away from home.
Why I Am Asking for Help
I am naturally a very private person, and asking for help does not come easily. In fact, I spent a long time debating whether to create this page at all!
However, being away from home for weeks at a time means the costs quickly add up. Accommodation alone costs between £80 and £100 per night. When you add travel, fuel, food, and daily expenses, each hospital stay places a massive financial strain on us.
The financial pressures of treatment are becoming too difficult for my family to manage alone.
How Your Donations Will Be Used
Any donation, no matter how small, will help relieve this pressure so I can focus entirely on fighting cancer and getting my life back. We want to be completely transparent about where your kind donations will go:
Family Accommodation: Covering the £80–£100 per night costs so my family can stay near the London hospital.
Travel & Fuel: Offsetting the cost of the 3+ hour journeys between Congleton and London for treatments.
Food & Daily Living: Helping with food and essential expenses while we are living away from home for weeks at a time.
Family Support: Ensuring my family can afford to take the necessary time off work to be by my side.
As a family, we have also decided that if there are any funds remaining once my treatment-related expenses are covered, the rest will be donated to a cancer charity to help others facing similar battles.
How You Can Support Me
I am fighting with everything I have to beat this. I know there will be difficult days ahead, but I refuse to give up. If you are able to support me, here is how you can help:
Donate: Any amount, even the price of a coffee, makes a massive difference to my family.
Share: Please share the link to this page on Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, or TikTok to help reach more people.
Leave a Message: Your words of encouragement keep my spirits up during long hospital days.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story and for supporting me during the biggest fight of my life. Whether you donate, share this page, or simply keep me in your thoughts, it truly means the world to me.
Thank you everybody!
Gracie Mae ❤️
