Grace's Yukon Expedition & Ghana Girls Education
Donation protected
My name is Grace, I am a year 13 student and will be running a half marathon on the 2nd May 2021, to fundraise for 2 projects that are very close to my heart and centred on education and youth development.
With 132 million girls out of school worldwide, "The Ghana Education Project", is a small UK Charity making a big impact supporting education for girls in Nkwanta, a remote and rural area in the Volta Region of Ghana. On average, girls in Ghana stay in school for only four years, dropping out as a result of early marriage, pregnancy, poverty, sexual harassment and various other barriers.
"The Ghana Education Project" opened its pioneering flagship Kyabobo Girls School in 2013 and in just 7 years has provided 500 girls with a free eduction with 84% of pupils achieving grades that afforded them access to tertiary education. A donation of just £10 can allow 1 student to go to school for a whole year, with all costs covered.
I have also been selected by "The British Exploring Society "to be part of their July 2021 expedition to the Canadian Yukon. "The British Exploring Society" is a youth development charity with a unique heritage that goes back 1932. It believes that challenging experiences can change lives empowering and equipping young people with the courage, integrity, tenacity and motivation to make the most of their future.
The expedition will undertake scientific fieldwork by studying the geological history of this remote and fragile wilderness and researching evidence of endangered wildlife. The expedition is designed to encourage young adults to develop their leadership qualities and interpersonal skills in a team under challenging conditions in hostile environments whilst learning about themselves.
Funds raised will be split between these 2 projects.
I would like to thank you for any donations you can give in support to reach my goal and please let me know if you have any questions and i'll be happy to answer them.
I have attached the two links to the different projects below if you would like to understand more.
