Grace's Heart Journey with DCM ❤️
This is Grace from Banff, Aberdeenshire who is 15 months old, she has 2 older sisters and a 1 older brother. Grace became unwell with what seemed like a cold on the 3rd of Feb. She deteriorated quite quickly and after a missed call back from her GP on 6th Feb led me to phoning NHS 24 who sent out an ambulance immediately, from there we we're sent to Royal Children's Hospital Aberdeen who did bloods & x-rays. Her x-ray came back showing her heart was very enlarged and struggling, these were then sent to Royal Childrens Hospital Glasgow for assessing, while awaiting there decision we were transferred from A&E to HDU, where Grace was put on a cpap machine to help take the stress off of her heart. We very quickly got the news we were dreading, she was being flown down to Glasgow and going straight into PICU to start immediate treatment. On 7th Feb early hours we landed at Royal Children's Hospital of Glasgow and after various testings and scans we we're told she had a condition called Dilated Cardiomyopathy and if we hadn't of acted that day she may have not made the weekend. Her heart was functioning at 10% and BNP of 55,000 indicating she was in heart failure.
Following her most recent clinic appointment on 26th March, her echo has shown there has been no improvements and her function remains at 10% and required further treatment. This meant we will be travelling from home to Glasgow every 2 weeks over an 8 week period which is a return trip of 388 miles. With further clinic appointments every month thereafter.
With her appointments being in Glasgow so far away from home and Grace's Dad having to take time off his work to travel up and down the country for these appointments, We have set up this go fund me to try raise some funds to support the family with travel costs, childcare costs and anything Grace may need along the way.
Anything helps to make things a little easier and take some of the stress off of the family.
