My name is Vicki and I am a foster parent in the State of Delaware. Back in October of 2023, we took in our first foster placement - an amazing little girl named Grace.
Grace's bio parents had fallen on hard times and they needed help getting back on their feet. They both busted their butt's to get back to a stable place and were awarded custody back of Grace in July of 2024. Over the course of the 9 months Grace was in our care, her parents became not only great friends of ours, but they became family. If you ask Grace, she will tell you she has 2 mommy's and 2 daddy's and we know that she loves when we are all working together to give her the best of the best! This isn't your normal outcome in fostercare, so we are beyond blessed to have created the bonds we have in this situation.
Sadly, while Grace was in fostercare, her Dad was diagnosed with Stage 4 colorectal cancer that had spread to his liver. He began undergoing treatment, but the tumors continued to grow. Through treatment, he continued to work full-time doing manual labor in order to support their family. He will be undergoing a colectomy surgery on February 18th. He will be out of work for a minimum of 6 weeks while he recovers from this major surgery. Once recovered, he will need to begin radiation and continued chemotherapy for the tumors in his liver.
While Grace's mom does work, her Dad's masonry work is their main source of income. Grace's mom also needs to take a few weeks off from work in order to care for Grace's Dad during recovery. Grace will be staying with us while her parents navigate this hard time.
I am creating this GoFundMe in hopes to relieve some of the financial burden they are facing. I am also hoping we might raise enough for them to get a used car, as they are currently relying on public transportation and friends to get to and from doctor appointments, work, and what not.
Every dollar will help. If you cannot donate, please consider sharing this with your friends and family. Prayers and positive thoughts are also so appreciated.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you!

2/18/2025 UPDATE: The surgeon was unable to do the scheduled colectomy today. When they got in there they realized the cancer has taken over way more than they anticipated. I don't know the next steps, but this is not good news and we do not expect a good prognosis.
I've already watched one of my daughter's lose their biological father, and I really, really don't want to go through that again. These poor girls.
Grace's parents need our support now more than ever. I'm begging for our community to come together and help them navigate this by taking some of the financial burden off of them.

3/8/2025 UPDATE: Grace's Dad met with the oncologist this past week and the prognosis is not great. His only option at this point is to undergo another round of chemotherapy in hopes that it will give him a bit more time with the ones he loves. This is not the news any of us were hoping for. But, despite it all, he remains positive and thankful for every day he gets to spend with his family.
We were able to use the funds donated and a little out of our pocket to buy them a used car (that hopefully stays reliable for some time), and secure auto insurance for them as well. This is HUGE and will help them immensely. My goal is to be very transparent with how the funds are being used so that all donors know it is going directly to their needs. After fees, we have collected a total of $2,569.32 thus far. We spent $3,000 on the vehicle and $193.89 on the first month's insurance. Our hope is to continue to raise funds to be able to help them with rent so that they can be a little less stressed during the next few months as they navigate this new normal. I will continue to provide updates as I get them, but please know that we all appreciate every single $1 and every share! It's been life changing for them.
