Grace Gaita Memorial Bench

Grace continues to be in our hearts, particularly as summer approaches and we prepare for Girl Scout Camp, a place Grace loved so much. Grace began as a Girl Scout in Kindergarten with her friends at St Thomas More School. Her troop all became campers at the Upper St Clair Service Unit Day Camp in South Park and she grew into being an aide in recent years. She loved working with children and everyone knew Grace at camp. It was always a great week for Grace and other Girl Scouts to explore the outdoors, do crafts, sing, cook in the woods and even do archery.

 

To honor Grace and provide her friends and family a quiet place to enjoy the outdoors at South Park like Grace did, friends of Upper St Clair Girl Scouts and other community members are working to install a memorial bench. The cost of the bench, a commemorative plaque and 10 years of maintenance by the county is $5,500.* The exact location of the bench will be determined in collaboration with the Allegheny Parks Memorial Service, Grace's parents and Girl Scout friends. We hope to have the bench up by the main camp area, where Girl Scout friends, family and community members can sit and reflect on Grace's days at camp and life here on earth.

*In the event we do not raise the full amount, we will find a similar way in South Park or at St Thomas More Campus to create an outdoor memorial for Grace.
