"Of Heroes and Saints": A Local Stained Glass Project
Tax deductible
Grace Church is seeking $30,000 in additional funding to complete the fabrication and installation of three stained glass windows depicting local heroes and saints that have fundamentally influenced our community. As the first stained glass commission by Grace Church in half a century, the “Of Heroes and Saints” project offers a
rare and culturally significant opportunity in the region. To show that stained glass in sacred places is not only reserved for the ancient saints, Grace Church is honoring three historical and contemporary figures to shine as sources of inspiration and reflection for all ages. For their achievements and devotion to their fellow men, Charles R. Johnson, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Julian of Norwich, were chosen to be the subjects of artistic admiration.
Accomplished illustrator and fine artist, Chris Duke, has masterfully designed each glass portrait with details that reflect the lives and spiritual gifts of all three: Charles Johnson for his acts of heroism and selflessness at Outpost Harry, Julian of Norwich for her prayer and contemplation as an anchoress, and Eleanor Roosevelt for her life’s work in the name of advocacy and universal rights. Beyer Studio of Philadelphia will translate the drawings into colored glass with Brianne VanVorst, principal of Liberty Stained Glass Conservation, providing technical assistance. Having successfully raised $25,000 in individual giving from the parish, Grace Church is broadening its reach by strategically selecting partners who we believe share in the vision and communal legacy this project represents.
