Grab Crohn's by the Bowels
Donation protected
As many of you know, our dad, Robert (Bobby) Daniels, has battled Crohn’s disease since he was 10 (43 years). Crohn’s is an inflammatory bowel disease that causes inflammation of your digestive tract. This leads to extreme abdominal pain, severe diarrhea, and weight loss to name a few effects. Once Crohn’s attacks a specific area of the digestive tract for so long, this area needs to be removed. Our dad has had 14 bowel resections, resulting in him only having less than 10 centimeters of bowel left, which has led to him being diagnosed with short bowel syndrome.
Recently, he has begun the process of getting a transplant. This transplant includes intestine, colon, pancreas, kidney, and liver. The transplant will take place in Omaha, Nebraska, and the recovery time is approximately 3-4 months. During the recovery process, he will have to stay in a hotel and will have to pay for most lodging, food, and transportation for a caregiver out of pocket. The donations from this GoFundMe would go directly to his recovery costs, including any transportation, lodging, and food costs associated with it.
He is currently on Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) feeding, and has been for the last 11 years. This along with hydration and other nutrients being delivered by way of an IV have limited his ability to live a high-quality life. Being on TPN and living from a picc line has taken a tremendous toll on his body, and he is on his last access point if this line ever goes bad. He has frequent electrolyte imbalances which further deteriorate his quality of life. This April, his electrolyte imbalance became so bad that he went into v-tach. He has had frequent bouts of sepsis caused by his picc line getting infected. His limited amount of intestinal tract greatly reduces and limits his ability to retain nutrients which is why he has to be hooked up to an IV almost all the time. When he eats anything orally, it goes directly through him into his colostomy bag in a matter of minutes, if not seconds. There was a period of about 6-8 months last year and this year where he was in and out of the hospital every other week. He has had numerous blood clots in his lungs, arms, and legs. He has gone through more in 53 years of life than most people would go through in two lifetimes, and has taken it all with a smile on his face. This transplant would not only vastly improve his quality of life, but it would give us a chance to get our dad, and friend back.
Any support or donations of any kind would be greatly appreciated and would mean more to him and our family than words could say. We appreciate all the support we have already received through this process and throughout the past several years that he has battled this illness. Any donations and support will help us as we #grabcrohnsbythebowels.
