Just over a week ago, our dear friend and community member, Jairo, was detained by ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement). We are asking for your help to raise funds to cover his attorney and court fees, as well as rent and care for his children while he is detained.
About Jairo:
Jairo was brought to the U.S. from Mexico as a young child. He grew up in Phoenix, and went to Arizona schools. After graduating, he has spent his entire adult life building a home and raising his family here. He is the devoted father of two U.S. citizen children who depend on him for love, stability, and daily care. Jairo is an amazing, hardworking father who teaches his children to be responsible, kind, and community-minded.
Without Jairo, his children would face deep trauma and hardship. Jairo has no real ties to Mexico—Phoenix is the only home he has ever known. For years, he has been working with an attorney on the lengthy process of becoming a lawful permanent resident, and he was close to completing it when he was detained.
Our Community’s Story:
We first met Jairo more than six years ago when our community garden was still only an idea. From the very beginning, he volunteered his time and energy to make it real. He became a leader in the garden and, just last October, took on the role of garden manager. Jairo is there every week, often bringing his children, and together they have become an integral part of our community family.
Why We’re Asking for Help:
A group of about 20 of us—friends, neighbors, and supporters who love and believe in Jairo—are working together to support him and his kids. Your donations will go directly toward:
Attorney fees (approx. $11,000)
Court and document fees (approx. $2,000)
Rent for his family’s home (approx. $3,600 for two months)
Care and support for his children (approx. $1,500)
Payment due for tools necessary for his income (approx $1000)
We hope you will join us in keeping Jairo’s children safe and supported while helping him fight for the chance to remain free and raise them here, in the only country he has ever called home.
