Solen Stratton was brought into the world on October 29th 2014 at 1:57PM weighing 8 lbs. 14 oz. at Onslow Memorial Hospital. Jamie Stratton labored for 3 hours with until they had to perform an emergency cesarean. Solen's head had been lodged in the birthing canal and was asphyxiated. When he came out, he was resuscitated after 6 minutes. It was found that he suffered from lack of oxygen, fluid in his lungs, swelling of the head, and bruising of the head and neck. Solen was transferred to New Hanover Regional Medical Center for immediate care under a specific special procedure (cold treatment) in an attempt to prevent brain damage. So far, Solen has been showing positive response to treatment but is still in a lot of pain. Solen is still due for a series of tests, scans and monitoring until he can be discharged. The Stratton Family may not be out of the woods though because it is realistic that even after discharge, it is still possible for other issues to display during the developmental stage. This facility NICU has been the best and most advanced care that Solen could ask for but it is an hour away for Chris and Jamie to travel from their home.
At this time, Chris and Jamie Stratton are asking for donations towards medical bills, transportation cost, food for parents and preparing for the future for Solen's development. We have set the goal at a moderate $2000 because we do not yet have an estimated cost of some of these needs.
