Mason’s Medical Journey

On Friday May 30,2025 we closed an excruciating long chapter of getting justice for my son Maven who was tragically killed in 2020. It has been an agonizing journey since this significant loss that will forever leave emptiness in our hearts. We truly thought life could only get better from here as this was any parent’s worst nightmare.

Unfortunately a new nightmare has begun for my family. On Monday June 2,2025 our 3 year old son Mason was admitted into the Children’s Hospital. Mason’s health rapidly declined since he has been in hospital. He has difficulty walking , requires oxygen and is in severe pain. On June 4, 2025 Dr’s have found inflammation and fluid on his heart (Pericarditis), lungs, liver and joints. He requires oxygen. Ongoing daily testing is being done through blood tests, urine ,ultrasounds,X-rays,EKG’s and heart echos.

There is no insight on the cause of why this is happening and his diagnosis still remains a mystery after nearly a week in hospital. Mason is being tested for infections and a number of rare autoimmune disorders and diseases which will take some time to receive results on. On June 7th, 2025 Doctors started Mason on steroids and IVIG Therapy (Intravenous immunoglobulin) to see if he responds well .This involves introducing Mason’s body to a concentrated mixture of antibodies (immunoglobulins) from donors that are put directly into his bloodstream through an IV.

Due to the severity of Mason’s current health and the ongoing changes his body is developing he will need to remain in the Children’s Hospital until his unknown medical condition is well understood and improves . If he were to make a full recovery he will still need to be closely monitored for an undecided duration of time to observe how his body is reacting.

Rheumatologists, Cardiologists,Orthopedists and Infectious Disease Doctors have been added to his care team. In the meantime our focus is to ensure Mason remains as comfortable as possible . My husband is presently the provider for our family while I am on maternity leave. Due to Mason’s current health situation my husband will be taking time off so we can focus on Mason’s medical journey . We are both taking turns caring for Mason in the hospital and our 8 month old daughter Emery at home.

We are hesitant to post this as we are not the kind of people to ask for help from others. The funds raised will help relieve some of the financial burden as we put our life on pause and focus on Mason making a full recovery and maintaining it. Funds will go towards bills, Mason’s medical and future medical costs(meds,injections etc),transportation,gas& parking costs as we are to and from the Children’s Hospital multiple times a day. We have a long road ahead of us and we are appreciative of anything. We will be posting updates as they come. Hug your loved ones a little extra . Thank you!
