I’m Crystal, Sophia’s mom and this is our story.
July 20th, 2021, is a day my family and I will never forget. It was just two weeks after my daughter, Sophia Marie celebrated her 10th birthday.
Over a period of two months, my daughter Sophia complained about headaches. I took her to see her doctor and was told all was good. I was advised if the headaches continued to return to see the doctor. Three weeks later, Sophia’s headaches intensified and she began to experience little to no energy, always sleeping, and was nauseous/vomiting most of the time. I returned to the doctor’s office where we saw a different doctor, blood work was drawn and results were normal. The doctor suggested we do an MRI. I’m truly grateful the doctor made that decision because it potentially helped save my daughter’s life.
July 19th, 2021, we went for our scheduled MRI. After thirty minutes of waiting, the doctor walked out and I immediately knew something was wrong. The doctor informed me that Sophia had a mass in her brain. My heart was shattered into a million pieces
The following day, Sophia had emergency surgery to remove the mass. On July 22nd, we were informed Sophia had Medulloblastoma cancer. We were told she would need Radiation treatment at MD Anderson Hospital in Houston, TX, and Chemotherapy at Driscoll Children’s Hospital.
We know your prayers for Sophia have been instrumental in her recovery progress and for that we are truly blessed and thankful.
Before cancer, Sophia enjoyed her time being a big sis to four-year-old Gianna. Sophia enjoyed reading/learning, swimming, running, dancing, and singing. Sophia is the sweetest and kindest girl with a big heart. She is full of love and life. If you’ve had the opportunity to meet her, you would know just how special she is.
While we may never understand why cancer happens, this is now Sophia’s Journey and together we will fight! We have faith in God, that Sophia will overcome this battle.
This experience has left us anxious, afraid, and overwhelmed. Life truly can change in the blink of an eye. Hold your babies tight and always tell them how much you love them.
I am truly blessed to have so many people reach out and offer to assist with the costs we will endure.
Any contribution made will go towards medical expenses and for the care of Sophia. If you’re not able to make a monetary donation, I humbly ask for prayers for Sophia, our family, and all other families who are fighting this battle.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all your prayers and continued support.
