Edsel No’eau Ralar, was diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, on October 23, 2021, at the young age of 40 years old. ALS is a progressive and fatal neuromuscular disease that slowly robs the body's ability to walk, speak, swallow and breathe. ALS can strike anyone, and presently there is no known cause or cure. As you can imagine, this was heart-wrenching and earth-shattering news for his parents, children, partner, friends, and all of us who love him dearly.
The time has come sooner than anyone could imagine for this amazing man to need assistance with mobility and access within the Ralar family home. The family needs home renovations to allow No’eau to maintain his freedom and quality of life. Required renovations include:
- Creating an ADA bathroom with wheelchair accessible shower stall, toilet, and sink
- Converting a garage into a living space without stairs (insulation, electrical, a/c, etc.)
- ADA and medical assistance transportation
- In-home medical assistance that the family is unable to provide
The entire Ralar family is the most loving, giving, and supportive group you could ever find. They are the first to offer kokua and prayers to those in need, and it is time for us to offer help in their greatest time of need. No’eau deserves to be able to live out the remainder of his life in the most comfortable and safe manner possible. No’eau is continually surrounded by the love of family and friends and a supportive medical team. He tackles daily challenges with tireless warrior-like strength and faith. Amber, Uncle Eddie, Aunty Kathy, Nohealani, Namahina, Devlin, and Leila are truly appreciative of any and all help you can offer.
As friends of No’eau and his family, we have put together this GoFundMe to help No’eau and his family. Please donate what you can so the Ralar family can continue to support No’eau.
Please consider sharing this GoFundMe with your network to spread the word. Thank you for helping the Ralar family support No’eau, our ALS warrior!!
A highly affordable at-home caregiver has been identified for the ‘ohana, but would need to travel back and forth from the mainland often. If you would consider donating air miles, kindly contact the organizer through the GoFundMe page.
