I have known Karen for almost 40 years. The thing that really stands out to me is that she has always been there for everyone else! I still lovingly place the Christmas ornaments on our tree that she gave to my children when they were born. She has always been there to support my family through our journey over the years.
I know she has been there for you as well. I feel certain that many of you have similar memories of how Karen has supported you and your family. She is always the first one to go into action to help those needing assistance. Her school community has benefited from her tenacious ability to help families through difficult times. Countless families have had wonderful Christmases, received clothing, school supplies, food, rental assistance and much more because of Karen’s compassion for others.
Most recently, Karen was awarded the Valley Oaks Elementary PTA School Bell Award. Her nomination read:
"Karen has been an integral part of the Valley Oaks community for years. She always goes above and beyond to help any child or family in need. During the school closure last spring, she called and checked in on students, arranged food drop-offs, and worked with local social work agencies to get rent assistance for those families struggling with lost income. She has been a shining star for those experiencing difficult times as well as a voice of wisdom and guidance for parents.
Karen, we thank you for all that you have done and continue to do for the Valley Oaks Community. We are blessed to have such a treasure as you and that is why the PTA is honored to give you this award."
As you can see, Karen has always been a giver, a silent giver, not expecting recognition or accolades. Her mission has always been to help others.
During this time of a medical emergency, we have succeeded in convincing Karen that it is her time to receive. She has many financial hurdles ahead of her related to her treatment. What we all know is that Karen's energy needs to be focused on her physical and emotional healing. Removing the burden of financial stress will provide her the strength to heal and restore her body.
