Hello Everyone!
My name is Kristen Brown, but most people just call me KB. I was born in Columbia Maryland in what people would call a track and field house. I have been involved with the sport since I was six years old. It is, and will always be my first love and passion. Even as a young child I set very high and different standards for myself. I have had dreams of becoming an olympian, and future gold medalist since I put my first pair of spikes on!
My path has not been one of a typical athlete in track and field. I began my career at Virginia Tech and ultimately ended it at San Diego State University. My college athletic career has helped shape and mold me into the woman I am today. I have been known as a 100 meter hurdler from the very early years of my high school career. However, a creative coach came up with the idea of having me try pole vault in college. With my gymnastics background and speed he felt that I would be very successful in the event. Turns out he was right! Pole vault is an event that I have fallen in love with after only competing in it for five years. Balancing the 100 meter hurdles, relay events, and pole vault was indeed one of the hardest things I have done athletically in college. Now that I have graduated I have the opportunity to focus 100% of my time, energy, and effort into the pole vault. I know the sky is the limit for me and I am so excited to start my professional career.
I was offered the opportunity to train at the Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista, CA this year! This is the first step on my professional journey and I am beyond blessed and excited. The route that I am on is something that I can't do on my own. The money I am hoping to raise will go towards my training for the year, my living expenses in San Diego, my massage, chiropractor, and physiotherapy appointments, and last but not least my travel expenses for meets that I would like to compete in for the 2016 season.
