My dog Bonnie has gone blind almost overnight.

She’s a Beagle–Retriever cross with insane energy — she swims, she chases, she lives in motion.

Last week she suddenly got confused, scared and started crashing into walls.

After seeing a specialist we got the diagnosis: fast cataracts caused by diabetes.

Her vision went from normal to gone in days.

She now gets insulin twice a day — her diabetes is controlled — and she qualifies for cataract surgery that could restore her sight.

I’m trying to raise this so she can see the world again.

What the costs are:

•⁠ ⁠Cataract surgery itself: £4,700

•⁠ ⁠Pre-surgery checks + bloods already paid: £450 still more bills to come for post op.

•⁠ ⁠Diabetes meds + insulin monitoring: £80 per month at least (ongoing, under control)

Total target: £4,700

(one surgery restores her sight — insulin is already managed)

More about Bonnie

Bonnie is a Beagle cross Golden Retriever. She is very much Beagle in her personality — always moving, sniffing, exploring — but her soft Retriever side comes out in her eyes. She can run for miles chasing deer and pheasants, she can swim for an hour without rest (we even call her “the duck”).

She is a family dog. She loves my two girls, and she is particularly gentle with one who has a disability. She goes everywhere with us — that was never a problem until suddenly she became confused, scared and disorientated. She started bumping into walls and furniture. Her world went dark so fast.

I know dogs can adapt to blindness — and if that is where we end up, we will love her through it — but I want to know I tried everything before giving up on her sight.
