GotPPE: Medical Grade Personal Protection

Donation protected

We are raising funds to pay for the production of face shields to protect Covid-19 front line and "essential service" workers in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Due to the current Covid-19 pandemic there is a pressing and immediate need for Personal Protection Equipment (PPE). One item in particularly short supply is face shields, used to protect doctors, healthcare providers and other "essential service" workers from aerosolized virus particles.

Availability of PPE has dwindled and the team at Good.Little.Things is able to help. We have created a CNC-milled design, based upon a 3D printed protective visor developed by Swede Erik Cederberg of 3DVerkstan (NIH-reviewed for clinical use). This visor is also currently being produced in New York by Bjarke Ingels, of the architecture firm BIG, and being donated to medical facilities in New York.

The design is entirely reusable and consists of a visor with a simple plastic shield fitted across the user’s forehead. Good.Little.Things has optimized this design for computerized milling, providing the benefit of vastly increased production speed versus most 3D printing (roughly 30 times faster). Because the shield is reusable and can be sterilized between uses, material costs are slightly higher.

We are seeking donations to support us in providing these shields at no cost to those on the front lines, in need, and otherwise unable to purchase these shields. Our target donations are both to employees and volunteers within the following categories:

* Public schools (who are handing out food to those families in need)
* Hospice providers
* Soup kitchens
* Organizations providing aid to the homeless
* Other organizations deemed to have "essential services" and lacking funding for protection

Your generous support will help to cover:

* Materials to make CNC machined visors and shields
* Cost to operate the CNC machine (electricity, maintenance, etc.)
* Individual, sterilized packaging for each shield
* Delivery & shipping costs

All funds will go towards the production of protective face shields which will then be provided at no cost to those in need.

Your generous contributions will make it possible for us to produce roughly 1400 masks using raw materials we have in existing stock. If we exceed our fundraising goals we will endeavor to produce additional masks for as long as funding and materials allow. This pandemic has created short supply of some key materials (specifically polycarbonate). If we are unable to secure the needed materials after our goal is met we will donate excess funds to the Small Business Relief Fund through Opportunity Fund (https://www.opportunityfund.org/small-business-relief-fund/).

Thank you for your kindness, and for contributing to the health and wellbeing of our brave and tireless critical care providers.
