Got To Be Free - A Village Drums of Freedom Story

Every year, on the Caribbean twin island of Trinidad & Tobago, the Village Drums of Freedom host their community celebration of music, arts & culture.

This film emerged from its 50th anniversary in 2018, asking,

What keeps them going, and how did it all begin?

As many of you know, creating this film has been a long journey and a labor of love - made possible through the support of friends, family, and allies.

Carrying this film into the real world has brought with it a whole new set of challenges and expenses. Now, you can continue to support by donating to our fundraising campaign : )

What your donations are needed for:

1. Post-Production - The team has labored for months to bring the audio, color and graphics of our edit to its highest potential. They worked in good faith and out of passion for the project. Your support is still needed and appreciated to help pay them for their hard work!

2. Film Festivals - For the past year and moving forward, we've been submitting our film to festivals internationally. WOMEX World Music Expo was the first to accept our doc into its Film Library, available to festival attendees and alongside other awesome music documentaries! We were then honored to premiere at the Caribbean Film Festival in Port of Spain, Trinidad & Tobago where some of the Village Drum of Freedom founding fathers were able to attend. Most recently, our doc enjoyed its African premiere at Soweto International Film Festival in South Africa, where busloads of school students attended alongside regular festival attendees.

Submission fees add up quickly, as well as the costs of attending in case of selection.

3. Visibility & Distribution - Bringing a film from the editing room into the world requires many elements! A trailer, a website, press kit, posters and cards, promotional events, and lot's of communication. Bringing the film back to those who inspired us to make it in the first place is also an essential element in this process.

All of these deliverables require resources; your donation will help offset these continuing costs.
