When the Christians are storming the Capitol, sexting side pieces, and protecting power over people, something's gotta change.

No one cares about a “faith” that shows up as hypocrisy, scandal, or abuse.
No one's interested in a “faith” that’s oppressive, and steals from the poor to make another rich.
And no one really wants to give everything for a “faith” that amounts to nothing.

But a way of life that produces integrity, humility and healthy boundaries?
A life that fights for freedom and eradicating inequity?
And a courageous life with real power to tangibly transform our world?
Well that might be worth exploring.

[GOSPEL] is road-tripping to the front lines of justice movements across the country - taking you to spaces you've never been, and learning from real people activated by a real God to bring real change to our collective world.

INSPIRATION

Calvin Lee & Marisa Prince created and hosted the [GOSPEL] Minneapolis Livestream on March 7, 2021. Featuring a fresh new format of Short Documentary Storytelling, Musical Performances, and a Panel of grassroots Minneapolis leaders who were activated into purpose in the aftermath of George Floyd’s murder, the Show gave glimpses of a creative way to usher global audiences to the front lines of fights for freedom all across the country. In the middle of Sunday evening's Live Show, a few Panelists asked which City the show would tackle next; and by Wednesday morning, seven different crew and audience members shared similar thoughts. The Core team took time to pray and survey the landscape, and the [GOSPEL] Livestream Limited Event Series was born.

STRUCTURE
In a six-part Sunday Evening Livestream Limited Series, each one-hour episode will feature LIVE musical performances, VICE-style storytelling, and dynamic discussion with grassroots leaders about critical, national issues.

In San Francisco, we’ll learn about the fight against Asian Hate; in Bismarck, it’s Native American Rights and Environmental Justice. Atlanta educates us on Trafficking and Sexual Abuse, while Flint exposes attitudes on basic Human Rights like Clean Water. San Antonio reveals the ethical wrestling over issues of Immigration and Kids in Cages; and our final episode, [GOSPEL]: Washington D.C., will serve as a ninety-minute Town Hall special with a live in-person audience - featuring key characters from previous episodes engaging in urgent dialogue on our collective way forward.

TONE & STYLE

Youthful, energetic, raw and authentic, [GOSPEL] is a hybrid of edgy front-line reporting, Late Night TV Musical Performances and Virtual Town Halls. The show is a diverse, engaging wide space - challenging those outside and within mainstream, Evangelical spaces to examine how we really see one another, and if we will choose to move forward - together.

HOSTS

Calvin Lee, a second-gen Korean American, and Marisa Prince, an African Descendent of Slaves (ADOS), are Believers seeking more from the American Christian Church. Banding together in the trenches of predominantly White, Male Evangelical spaces, they are now fighting to bridge racial, cultural, and religious divides on behalf of a more fully realized vision for how beautiful life can be.

EPISODE DESCRIPTIONS

San Francisco - Asian Hate / Hate

[GOSPEL]: San Francisco brings you to the Bay area where Asian American activists and organizers are mobilizing to keep their communities safe from racially motivated violence. Discussing topics of Coronavirus scapegoating, Asian American Identity, xenophobia and relationships within the broader Church.

Bismarck - Keystone Pipeline & Native American Rights / Environmental Justice

[GOSPEL]: Bismarck explores how Believers are bringing homegrown, grassroots efforts towards healing and wholeness in Native American communities. From environmental issues (Keystone Pipeline), economic empowerment (casinos, education), and health (alcoholism and drugs) - what’s being done to bring restoration to a group of people who got the shaft in this country?

Atlanta - Trafficking & Porn / Sexual Abuse

[GOSPEL]: Atlanta goes straight to the site of the Ravi Zacharias sexual abuse scandal to explore how local Believers are standing up against not only church scandals (Southern Baptist Abuse), but also the strip club and porn industry. How are people moving to bring healing and wholeness to victims of sex abuse and trafficking?

Flint - Clean Water / Human Rights

[GOSPEL]: Flint takes you to the frontlines of a 7 year fight for a basic human right: clean water. How are local residents rising up to care for the least of these? How are people rising up to bring legislation to ensure that the crisis never happens again? And what does Flint show us about our Nation’s distribution of critical resources?

San Antonio - Kids in Cages / Immigration

[GOSPEL]: San Antonio takes us to the biggest city close to the Texas/Mexico border to explore how we’re caring for immigrants, refugees, and most strikingly - the kids in the cages. How is the community wrestling with choices between meager job opportunities and the ethics of maintaining immigrant holding facilities? How are people of faith rising up to bring healing and wholeness, and keep the biblical mandate of caring for widows and orphans?

Washington D.C. - Radically Together / Charting Our Way Forward

[GOSPEL]: Washington D.C. is a reunion, Town Hall special bringing members of previous episode panels to the Nation’s Capital for an in-person rousing discussion on if, and how, the collective Church can work together to bring hope and healing in our communities. With all of our division, can we somehow imagine a way forward?

*******

The [GOSPEL] Event Experiences will be totally free, so as to remove virtually all barriers to entry.
No matter where you are racially, politically, experientially - these Livestreams will be widely-engaged gathering spaces where all are truly welcome.

We're praying that by the time we get to the Washington D.C. Finale on October 3rd, audiences who have been following the show will join us in person. None of us will be "taking the Capitol". But we all will have to take responsibility for releasing the deep-seated hurts/preferences/prejudices we carry in order to pick up a new collective burden: powerfully moving this country forward - together.
