‘‘Hi, my name is GOSIA, MALGOSKA, MALGORZATA – whichever you prefer. I was born and raised in Bialystok and decided to move to Scotland where I have been living now for 3 years. I met my wonderful fiancé here where we have built a life together along with our 2 dogs. I was fortunate to discover that life had blessed me with another great gift when I fell pregnant last year; the greatest gift I could imagine. However, I developed ever-growing concerns about my physical health and after several doctor’s appointments and medical testing I received a diagnosis which turned my life upside down: ‘breast cancer with metastases to lymph nodes’

I was pregnant at the time of diagnosis, a time which I imagined to be the happiest of my life. I had seen the ultrasound scans showing my baby’s hands and I had heard the beautiful sound of my baby’s heartbeat. It is very difficult to treat cancer in any case, but even more challenging during pregnancy, so chemotherapy was carefully administered to ensure it would not cause any harm to my baby.

On the 3rd of March 2015, my beautiful baby boy named Leon was born. He was born almost 2 months prematurely but fortunately he was born healthy. This for me was the greatest news in the world and I am happy to say, although all mothers say this, that he is the cutest baby in the world and he is all mine!

During the month to follow, further treatment was administered in order to try and combat my illness and on the 6th of April I was admitted to hospital with acute pneumonia. I was told the worst news I could possibly hear. I was told that I wouldn’t survive but the fighter in me decided that I was not just going to accept this and this day I decided to change the statistics and I am continuing to fight every single day.

Despite my desire to fight, it was unfortunate to hear that the cancer had taken advantage of my weakened immune system during the course of my pregnancy and has spread to my liver, my spine, my lymph nodes, my brain…

Again, I have been told that I have very little chance to survive but I am not going to stop fighting and will never stop. I have so much in my life worth fighting for. I will fight for my beautiful son Leon. I will fight for my loving fiancé Krystof. I will fight for my whole family and fight for myself. I would love nothing more to see my son’s first steps, his first smile and hear his first laugh, his first words. I would love to be his mother and in his life to love and care for him as long as I can.

CAN YOU BE THE ONE TO HELP ME TO MAKE IT HAPPEN?

THE FACT IS THAT A COURSE OF TREATMENT IS VERY EXPENSIVE. At my stage, chemotherapy alone is unfortunately not enough and more often than not I am too weak to receive a treatment. I desperately need drugs which are not refundable by the NHS, probiotics, and funds to cover my travel expenses to and from a clinic.

I AM ASKING FOR SMALL DONATIONS. I  WILL NOT AND CANNOT MANAGE THIS FIGHT ON MY OWN, BUT WITH YOUR HELP I CAN OVERCOME MY ILLNESS AND STAY A PART OF MY SON AND FIANCE’S LIVES.

.. FOR LEON…FOR MYSELF… I LOVE MY LIFE SO MUCH… I WANT TO LIVE…’

THANK YOU FOR EVERY DONATION

Please help me support my best friend who was diagnosed with invasive breast cancer during her pregnancy.

I cannot describe the pain and a sense of helplessness from the day we heard this one short word which changed our lives forever. It is heart-breaking when you watch your best friend going through this difficult journey and there is nothing you can do.

Around 10 years ago I set off on a hitch-hiking journey across Europe and was astonished by the kindness of people who decided to help me without even knowing me. I asked one of people who decided to help me why? Why she decided to turn back and offer us so much time and support during our journey. Why did she offer us a safe place to stay and open her heart to 2 strangers?  We were told ‘IF EVERYONE WAS REACHING OUT TO OTHER PEOPLE THE WORLD WOULD BE A MUCH GREATER PLACE TO LIVE’. These simple words changed my life forever.

WITH THE UTMOST SINCERITY, I HOPE YOU CAN FIND THE GOODNESS INSIDE OF YOURSELF AND OPEN UP YOUR HEARTS TO HELP MY BEST FRIEND SO THAT THIS DIFFICULT, DRAINING ROAD TOWARDS HER RECOVERY CAN BE MADE AS STRESS-FREE AS POSSIBLE BY REMOVING THE CONSTANT WORRY OF HOW SHE CAN AFFORD TO PAY HER MEDICAL BILLS AND SUPPORT HER BABY BOY. THIS WAY SHE CAN FOCUS ALL HER ENERGY ON RECOVERING.

I am sure that ONE pound, ONE dollar, ONE euro, ONE zloty or other currency wouldn’t change anything for you but it definitely can help Gosia. Please do not feel ashamed it is ‘only’ a pound. It represents more than you think and EVERY SINGLE DONATION, even the smallest of donations will be going towards a great cause and will be hugely appreciated by myself, Gosia her family and friends.

Thank you for your support.
