Hello everyone

My name is Sophie. I am a trans woman living in Gorom Refugee Camp in South Sudan. I live here with a small group of trans and queer people. We support each other every day because life in the camp is very hard for people like us.

We face many challenges, violence because of our gender identity or sexual orientation. The journeyto safety is fraught with trauma, threats, sexual violence, discrimination, and legal aid is limited for queer individuals due to stigma and ignorance, It is difficult to get food, clean water, medical care, mental health, utilities and safe shelter. For LGBTQ+ people these challenges are even heavier because we face discrimination and danger for simply being who we are. Still we stay strong together and try to protect each other.

Your support has helped us survive. Your love, solidarity and compassion keep us alive. They remind us that we are not forgotten and that we deserve dignity and safety.

We are calling on all allies, donors to intervene in our situation and everyone who believes in human rights to stand with us. We need help to get food, basic necessities, water, soap, medical care, safer shelter and emergency support when someone is in danger. Even a small donation makes a real difference.
