My beloved cat, Gorgonzola, has been hospitalized twice this week following severe bladder obstructions. They placed a catheter on 7/23 to drain the urine, but he ripped it out almost right away. I brought him home under the advice of the ER vet with hopes he would not get blocked again, but here we are.
Unfortunately, all of this is very expensive and I’m not sure what the final cost of everything will be. As of now, he has not peed on his own, and if he doesn’t in the next couple of hours, he will need another catheter placed and to stay hospitalized (if he doesn’t pull it out) for at least 36 hours.
Any donations or shares are greatly appreciated and will go towards his hospitalization, pain meds, the catheter procedures and sedation, ultrasounds, and any other medical necessities. He is my entire world and being his mom means stopping at nothing to make sure he’s safe, even if that means asking the internet for help. Thank you for your time and love
UPDATE: We are on the third hospitalization and second catheter this week, as of 1am 7/27. They are draining his bladder and will keep him sedated and monitored afterwards. Unfortunately, since this is his “third strike” it is indicative of an ongoing issue that can only be fixed surgically.
Gorg will need PU surgery to create a new urethra as soon as possible. The surgery will be upwards of 6k, but I will have an updated price after I speak with the surgeons tomorrow. This will be a long journey ahead for my boy, but he is incredibly special to me and has much life left to live.
I am humbly asking for any help through this, again every donation and share is much appreciated.
UPDATE 7/31
Gorg was able to pee under anesthesia without a catheter! The vet, and I agree, think it is a neurological issue causing him to retain urine instead of a physiological block. This is great because it exempted him from the “three strike” rule, but meant we have a lot of trial and error ahead of us for treatment. He’s since been at home under daily mild sedation and pain meds, and he was able to pee! I have to watch him like a hawk and his bladder is still irregular, but it does indicate that he is not in imminent danger which is most important.
We saw his primary doctor today and she referred us to an internal medicine specialist that can help me navigate how to best help Gorg. Surgery is our last resort, so praying these med adjustments continue to work. At some point he will have to come off the pain meds and sedation, but the specialist will help with that.
Thank you everyone who has followed along, shared, donated, and sent prayers our way. This has taken off the financial burden of his hospital visits and I am eternally grateful! I have updated the goal to reflect a large portion of what his treatment has cost so far.
Thank you again
