Gordon's Fight Against Parvo

Tax deductible
Gordon came to Amazing Strays Rescue on 12/6/2021 as a last-minute rescue in dire need of assistance from Mexicali. Upon arrival, we were in love. This happy and adorable 4-month-old wrinkly guy was just as handsome as could be. It only took a day for us to notice though that all was not well. Gordon slowly went from a happy go lucky puppy to a shell of his former self. His happy eyes became droopy and tired. His large appetite for food and life became next to nothing. And in an instant, we realized we had a rescue’s worst nightmare, a parvo puppy. Parvo changes how we operate and sets our entire organization back two steps as we pour time, energy, funds, and sleepless nights to help him. The best option was to have him hospitalized at our amazing vet partner Animal Emergency Clinic of San Diego. So off we went on 12/7 to take this sweet boy to be hospitalized. Literally a chain of people all helping get him safely en route to the vet. The vet confirmed our worst nightmare as parvo and began all the standard protocols: fluids, meds, plasma treatments and round the clock care to support him. From the vomiting, lethargy, and diarrhea we knew he was going to be a long shot, but he needed us now more than ever. Now came the waiting time, where we support and see if his body can do the work with our help. Poor guy even had a nasogastric tube placed to support with nutrition as he was losing weight faster than we could comprehend. And boy are we glad we got him into the vet when he did because sure enough his cell counts went from beautiful numbers to around 1000 within a few days. We waited patiently and hoped that time would work in our favor. Sure enough after 9 days of hospitalization our puppy transformed back into a bubbly boy. His eyes brightened and perked up when you said his name and his zest for life resumed. Now that we have smothered him with kisses comes the hard part. Our bill is just shy of $6500 (see attachments) for the life saving care he received. He is our second parvo puppy (JUST this month) and any funds we had for other dogs and necessities went out the window. With over 2000 followers between social media, if folks could just spare $3 for Gordon, we could pay this bill off and get to moving to help the next dog in need. At the end of the day, there are no major grants or funding coming to save us. It’s the amazing individuals like you that keep ASR up and running, your $3 saves lives!
