Gordon Grant and the Grant Family

Hi, I'm Karen Schweigert. I am fundraising on behalf of Gordon Grant and the Grant family. Gordon, the guy with the amazingly big heart, had a heart attack and is now recovering from double bypass surgery.

From the beginning so many people have been reaching out offering love, support, and help. I was hoping we could all come together to help this wonderful family overcome the financial stresses that will result from the medical expenses and the loss of income during his recovery.

Gordon served the Spokane community for 30 years as a police officer. He was a beloved DARE officer. He is also the man behind the amazing Cops N Kids annual Car Show event which hit its own 30 year anniversary on Aug 14, 2021! After retiring from SPD, Gordon continued to serve the community as a school resource officer and he spends the summers DJing special events and working at the local golf course.

Gordon has an amazingly supportive employer through the Spokane Tribe. He is on leave without pay, and his job is 100% safe. As soon as he is able he is going to be back to work. Unfortunately, it could be up to six months before this happens - even though the ever-optimistic Gordy is planning to be there for the kids when they return to school after summer break.

Gordy and his wonderful wife Mo are very, very conservatively estimating that the out-of-pocket medical bills will be at least $20k. (I have had people close to me who have endured bypass surgery. I think $20k is a very low estimate.) Neither Gordy nor Mo is the type who would ever think to ask for help ... they are always the first to volunteer to help anyone else. (Mo is the efficient fundraising/party planning organizer, and Gordon would be the DJ.)

The Grant family are always the first people to offer to help ... but they are so deserving of help now.

When I spoke to them about wanting to fundraise, both were reluctant to ask for help. I literally had to remind them of the outpouring of love and offers to help they have been receiving. I told them both that so many of us are waiting in the wings in the hopes of being able to do anything to help them in any way. I also told them that I was going to start fundraising unless they ordered me not to!

If you can donate anything, that would be such a help. I am hoping there are scores of people who would love to help the Grants navigate through this without having to be stressed by/buried under a mountain of debt.
