Help Save a Goose’s Leg – A Rescue Mission in Davenport
Donation protected
Goal: $850 (Covers net gun, tax, CO2 cartridges, and expedited shipping)
Hi, I’m Clint – and I need your help to save a goose.
My 4-year-old son and I were feeding geese at Vander Veer Park in Davenport when he noticed one struggling to walk. At first, we thought it might have been born with one leg—but then he pointed out another goose with fishing line wrapped tightly around its leg. He looked up at me and said, “We gotta save that goose.”
I’ve tried everything I could over the past week—pole nets, throw nets, even called animal control. But this goose is smart, fast, and still trying to care for his mate and four babies. I can get within 7 feet, but I need the right tool: a net gun designed for humane capture and release.
The net gun costs $700 (plus tax and CO2 cartridges), and shipping takes up to a month. I’d like to expedite shipping to act quickly before it's too late.
Here’s the good news:
After connecting with Hog Capital Wildlife Rehab, their experienced “goose wrangler” tried 8 times to catch him—but also came up short. She told me, “If I had that net gun, I could catch him no problem.” Unfortunately, as a volunteer, she’d have to pay out of pocket—something she simply can’t afford.
This tool wouldn’t just help this one goose—she knows of at least 4 others in similar condition. Your donation can make a real, ongoing impact.
How you can help:
Donate any amount—every dollar makes a difference
Share this campaign to spread the word
Optionally, you can also donate directly to Hog Capitol Wildlife Rehab
I’ve chipped in $20 myself. With the help of a few kind strangers, I know we can do this.
If we succeed, I plan to record the rescue and post it to YouTube under the title SaveTheGoose123—so you can see exactly what your donation helped accomplish.
Let’s give this goose a chance to walk, swim, and raise his little family pain-free.
Thank you for helping us save this goose.

Update.
There is another goose at Palmer Hills with the same issue. I can't hardly look at the picture, but hopefully this net gun will prevent other geese from getting in this shape.
