Goose's recovery from Hurricane Ian damage

Goose Perez is a cancer survivor and amputee who represented the USA at two Paralympic games (2010 and 2014). He started his Paralympics career as a curler and ended it as a Nordic skier. Following his sporting career, Goose, his wife Brenda, and their two twin children moved from New York to Florida. His children thrived here and have just begun their first year of college. His son is attending the US Naval Academy, and his daughter is attending Florida Gulf Coast University in Ft Myers. Unfortunately, their home was also in the direct path of Hurricane Ian and sustained significant damage. They had multiple trees fall on their house, these trees punched numerous holes in their roof and resulted in the loss of a large portion of the roof and it's ability to keep water out of the house. The house will need a completely new roof following the storm. Due to water intrusion, much of the house's interior had to be gutted to prevent the spread of mold and remove water-damaged building materials, cabinets, and appliances. The family has also had to hire professionals to remove the downed trees from the house and yard. If all of this was not bad enough, Brenda's workplace was also severely damaged in the storm and she has not been able to work in the aftermath.

Fortunately, Goose was responsible and had insurance for the house. Unfortunately, hurricane deductibles are very high and not all work will be covered by insurance. Recovering from this storm will put this family through a substantial financial burden and any help will be greatly appreciated.

My name is Kevin Burton, I was Goose's teammate at the 2014 Paralympic Games in Sochi, Russia. Following my retirement from competition, I moved to Englewood, FL, not knowing I had a teammate who also lived here. Turns out we ended up having houses just a couple miles apart....small world. My wife, Joy (also a Paralympic skier), and I were fortunate and only sustained minor damage in the storm and wanted to do something to help Goose recover. That is the reason this fundraiser came to be. All funds will go to Goose's account. We will not have anything to do with the funds or how they are used. That will be up to Goose and his family alone.
