My doctor-certified ESA, Delta, has been the keystone to my mental health for the last 10 years.

My name is Heather and I am a USMC veteran who was subsequently diagnosed with PTSD after my last deployment in 2012. I am currently a graduate student of physics, which has been the best choice for me to simultaneously build a career and work through some of my military-related traumas; but as a result, my financial income is low. I am psychologically dependent on Delta as a means of coping with my ongoing symptoms. I humbly ask you today to please help me help him because if I prematurely lose him, I won’t know how to continue.

Delta has always been well cared for and healthy up until December 2022 when he came down with a relentless upper respiratory infection. After several emergency veterinary visits, we now know that Delta is suffering from a complicated mix of ailments: an infection in his nose that has spread to his spine, a liver problem, and most devastatingly- cancer of his lymphatic system. I have no idea what the subsequent medications and exams will cost, but so far the expenses have already exceeded $6,000.

Throughout many challenges and hardships over the last ten years, my boy has been there for me. This dog has crawled under desks and tables with me during panic attacks and flashbacks. He has woken me up from nightmares and his fur has willfully been the recipient of my tears on countless occasions. Delta has given me companionship, protection, and a sense of purpose. When things get bad, and suicide has been considered a viable option, this animal has additionally kept me safe from myself by needing my care.

I mean this with complete sincerity: I would not be alive today if it were not for this dog. I owe it to him to exhaust all options to afford him the best care I can.
