Hi everyone! I'm Chioma Ejimofo, a filmmaker based in London, and I've been passionate about creating films since childhood. My work delves into the exploration of memory, nostalgia and heartbreak and I love challenging myself by working in different mediums, a blend of genres, editing styles and tones. Since graduating in 2020, my priority has been working in the film/TV industry. I'm lucky to have been able to work as a production assistant on television shows and collaborate with talented artists on my own shoots and unique MVs. I use any opportunity to create, and this film in particular has held special meaning to me, dating back nearly 2 years to its inception. Since then this film has seen substantial growth, script development and an ever-expanding crew composed of the best people.
I am confident that with the progress made with Goodbye Train so far, I will achieve my goal of telling a lovely short story that underscores the impact of community. With your help, this will make my directorial debut really special.
My Instagram is Shotbychioma, where you can expect to see stories and film progress updates regularly as production commences. My previous film work can be found on my channel here: Chioma Ejimofo
The Story:
Goodbye Train is a short film written and directed by Chioma Ejimofo that explores the importance of community and kindness in society. Set on a bustling train, the film delves into the profound influence of these seemingly subtle actions, exploring the quiet unspoken connections and the more overt displays of compassion. After an abrupt breakup results in isolation between herself and her friends, Bea, a 20-something university student, takes the train home. Amidst emotional reminders, she forms an impactful bond with a stranger opposite.
Creative Vision:
My vision for the film involves capturing these significant moments through a vibrant, colourful lens. Using a progressively saturated and rich palette of colours as the story develops. This visual approach intentionally contrasts the expected monotony of a train journey, symbolising Bea's transitional phase.
Films such as Mommy (2014), Olla (2019), and Chungking Express (1994) have been pivotal in the development of my films' visual language. Film photography is also an inspiration for the visual aspect of Goodbye Train - particularly work that explores girlhood and memory.
Why we need your support:
As a young filmmaker and first-time director, I am lucky to have received initial backing that jumpstarted this film project. Your contributions would enable us to create a film with a proper budget scale that aligns with the film's inherent beauty and ambition. The primary allocation will be directed toward securing the train location, sourced already thanks to the assistance of an experienced location manager - this setting is pivotal for effectively conveying Bea's story.
Your contributions would go towards renting the ideal camera equipment to accurately capture the vibrant, rich visual world of Goodbye Train:
The money raised will also go towards:
- Cast
- Location fees
- Camera and Lighting
- Crew
- Production Design
- Transportation
- Location
Every donation aids in bringing us closer to this goal and we will be forever grateful for any support.
Production Timeline:
We have scheduled shooting to begin in early October. With a 1 day shoot + a prep day.
After developing this film concept further last year it's so exciting to be entering the pre-production phase for Goodbye Train. This will happen in just under 11 weeks. Our journey begins with finding the perfect cast to embody the nuanced emotional performances. We will be refining the film's visual language and finalising shoot locations. Detailed planning and scheduling are already underway to guarantee a smooth shoot.
Thank you all for your help and I sincerely hope you'll consider donating, and if you're unable to I would massively appreciate it if you could share and forward this project.
Thank you,
Chioma Ejimofo
