It is with heavy hearts that Sandy and Masoud, the owners of the Piccadilly Café, are announcing the permanent closure of their restaurant, which has served warm smiles and tasty meals to the residents of Burlington for the past 25 years.
Like so many other small businesses, and particularly those in the hospitality and restaurant industries, the Piccadilly Café closed its doors in mid-March on account of the Covid-19 pandemic. Though Burlington is now gradually reopening, Sandy and Masoud have decided to close for good, because they both possess underlying health conditions that put them in a high-risk category. Equally, they are concerned for the safety of their guests, many of whom are elderly.
It cannot be understated how hard a decision this was to make.
Sandy and Masoud loved their jobs. What got them out of bed so early in the mornings, 7 days a week – in snowy, cold winters just as on summer hot days - was knowing that they could socialize with so many of Burlington’s friendly residents. They most enjoyed sitting with loyal customers and drinking afternoon tea, learning about their lives and families, and sharing special moments, like spontaneously singing a tune, laughing at jokes, and giving hugs.
This campaign is an opportunity to give a final “tip” to Sandy and Masoud as thanks for their many, many years of friendly service. Your generous gift will contribute to their retirement plans, which hopefully will include a much-deserved holiday vacation once the pandemic ends.
Please also note that a closing party will be held outside the front door (respecting all social-distancing rules) on Saturday, August 22, 2020 at noon.
We hope to see you there!
Yours,
The Piccadilly Café family
