Good Service wants to perform for YOU!!

My name is Noah Fardon. I was born and raised in Nashville, TN, to which I returned just over four years ago after seven years living in Maine, where I initially attended school before working a number of restaurant jobs and recording music in a repurposed laundry facility owned by a self-proclaimed pirate (*Ahoy, Captain Ross, the Baron of West Bayside*). I completed my first album, 'Please,' in that warehouse, writing, recording, performing, engineering and producing it in its entirety. Thereafter, with the indispensable help of not only my longtime creative partner, Jamie Joyce, but also mixing engineers/producers Vaughn Hunt (a dear childhood friend and primary songwriter for the New York band, Acid Dad), and Roger Moutenot (Yo La Tengo, Lou Reed, Guster, Caetano Veloso), I was able to release the full project in July of 2019.

Plans to tour that first album crumbled tragically when I suffered a pulmonary embolism (a life-threatening scattering of blood clots in the arteries of my lungs) that precluded any relevantly necessary travel by vehicle or plane. Another consequent development was my move back home to Nashville, where I was lucky enough to be welcomed and cared for by my wonderful parents until I was ready to return to the workforce. Music and dreams thereof were forced to the wayside.

Over the years since, I have nonetheless continued to create, write, experiment, engineer, and produce, and I am now in the final stages of post-production for the completion of my second album, 'Simply Too Much,' which will be released later this year. Having ultimately recovered both physically and psychologically from the embolism experience, it is once more my hope to bring my project into the ecstatic arena of live performance, and to commune with you in the sharing thereof, ideally bringing about that singular, endless wonder which such events so often catalyze for us all.

Doing so is immensely difficult, and given the highly particular nature of my recorded work, it has proved dishearteningly expensive. I am a tireless employee as a cook here in Nashville, a life that I cherish for its true groundedness in this exceptionally turbulent, terribly divided world that surrounds us, and for the daily opportunities it provides to collaborate alongside, learn from, share with, and create for others. Reputation preceding, however, it does not afford much whatsoever in the way of covering such expenses as this project has necessitated, and so I am reaching out in absolute humility and upon sprawling expanses of gratitude to ask for your help in realizing this dream by which I hope to conjure as much goodness in the world beyond myself as I humanly can.

To this end, I can assure you that I do not merely talk the talk; I believe in music as a limitless resource for good, and am always finding ways to manifest that conviction productively. All proceeds/royalties from the streaming of 'Please' were directed to the Nashville Free Store (a now-defunct mutual aid organization that proved especially crucial to East Nashvillians in need of clothing, food, household goods, and personal care supplies during the stretch of time when COVID quarantine came to supplant the deadly, catastrophic tornadoes of March 03, 2020 as our city's most prescient woe); and the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence. By the same token, all such funds earned through streaming of 'Simply Too Much,' will be directed to the following Nashville-based organizations: Workers' Dignity Project (via their website: "an organization led by low-wage workers who know that they deserve to live and work with dignity...working-class people of all races, ages, and walks of life to build resilient and democratic organizations capable of disrupting strategic institutions and industries,"); and Open Table Nashville (via their website: "a non-profit, interfaith community that disrupts cycles of poverty, journeys with the marginalized, and provides education about issues of homelessness,"). My performances will incorporate similar strategies to accomplish further community building in spaces where members of that community might actually get to convene, co-exist, and ideally celebrate one another. This magic is not unique to live music, of course, but this setting sure does serve as quite the consistent and meaningful platform for it. I plan to make the most of that potential.

So, where will your donations be going?

Thank you for sticking with me thus far - I won't keep you much longer. I recognize this is the most relevant and important question I can answer for you individually, and below you will find a concise listing of where donations will be allocated. And yet the disclaimer belongs in writing first: anything and everything is appreciated; nothing whatsoever is expected; despite my limitations in personally funding such things, I am ever so fortunate to have stability, and a support system in place - I anxiously urge that you only give if you not only can but truly want to, and if you can/do, that you only donate what you comfortably can. So without further ado, here are where GoFundMe resources will be allocated in the weeks/months ahead:

  • The completion of post-production (this album will be mixed by Nashville legend, Jeremy Ferguson at Battle Tapes Studio, and mastered by Montreal's Harris Newman); this is the greatest expense.
  • Live performance equipment (the breadth of my productions requires preprogramming of tracks beyond those my four-piece band is capable of recreating live, which itself requires computer softwares and select hardware devices to accomplish); this is the second greatest expense.
  • Manufacturing of hard copies (CDs, perhaps vinyl if it can be afforded; otherwise, it will be available only be streaming or download)
  • Distribution (as above, this is for digital purposes unless funds allow for physical distribution)
  • Supplies/resources for independent promotion via radio and the internet.
  • The band's tour van fund (I presently do not own a car, and rather than seek one for my own commutes/activities, I am instead directing all such purposed resources to a tour van; any funds that are not allocated to aforementioned expenses would be immensely helpful in us procuring a means by which to efficiently and comfortably perform both locally and beyond).

What will you get in return for your donation?

**Greater donations will receive all the benefits of smaller donations (should they be desired), plus whatever is "unlocked" by the new tier of giving.**

  • Donations of $10 and above: Free downloads of all Good Service albums forever.
  • Donations of $25 and above: Three Good Service drink coasters, and a signed CD copy of 'Please,' including a customized note.
  • Donations of $50 and above: Access to all unreleased B-sides from the recording of 'Please' and 'Simply Too Much,' as well as a burned CD with a number of my favorite songs of all-time.
  • Donations of $100 and above (the "Darn Tootin!" level): Free tickets and/or guest-list spots for you+1 to all Good Service shows forever, wherever.
  • Donations of $250 and above (the "Don't do it, I'm not worthy" level): A personalized, one-of-a-kind Good Service kitchen apron, as well as a unique "theme song" written about/for you (brag to your friends about how cool you are), and/or a meal* cooked for you and one other person (*presently applies only to those who live in Nashville and its surrounding areas).
  • Donations of $500 and above (the "Who the heck are you and why are you so nice?" level): Your name (or a chosen name) in a song on the next album, and the opportunity to perform a song with the band if ever we're playing your city/town.

Thank you all for your time, energy, and consideration. Sending love and well wishes to you and yours, hoping these words find you happy, healthy, and ultimately well despite all extenuating turbulence.

Sincerely,
Noah/Good
