Good Neighbor Food Pantry New Home Fund

After 31 years , the Good Neighbor Food Pantry must find or build a new home by June 1, 2021 or close its doors.
In 1990, the clergy of the local faith-based organizations met to address a growing concern of food insecurity in the greater Woodstock, NY community.
A result of the meetings was a commitment to create and support a food pantry. Each community staffed the pantry with volunteers and provided other forms of support as needed.
Over time, the number of volunteers grew scarce and the commitment of the faith-based organizations declined. The food pantry volunteers recognized the need for the organization to become a nonprofit with a governing board to ensure it's survival into the future.
The Good Neighbor Food Pantry is a 501(c)3 all volunteer charitable organization feeding over 31,000 people per year. GNFP feeds an underserved population of food insecure including the poor, working poor, homeless, elderly, infirm, unemployed, under-employed, adults and children. In order to remain in the community, GNFP must secure a permanent home. This is no small feat as real estate prices and rents rise, the availability of space in or near the center of Woodstock is scarce as well as unaffordable.
The food insecure are all around us. The need in the community is more profound now than ever before, even as the wealth pouring into the community transforms it dramatically.
