As a 1st generation Filipino American filmmaker who fell in love with film & TV at an early age, I've unfortunately never seen my experience as a Filipino authentically portrayed on screen, if at all. Consequently, I've never been able to validate what I continue to go through as a Filipino in America - and the strong feelings that accompany it - through consuming this art form I adore.
Good Filipino Kids is a passion project short film not only because of how personal this story is, but also because it's a film that would've helped me a lot if I'd seen it growing up or saw it now, and I hope Filipino Americans as well as Filipinos will see some of themselves in it, validating their very specific experiences.
It’s a film about the 1st generation Filipino American experience and what causes our generational trauma.
By supporting this film, not only will you help bring a dream project to life, you'll also help achieve a positive step forward in solving the diversity issue in the film & TV industry, particularly for the millions of Filipinos who desire characters who both look like them and have similar experiences & feelings.
Synopsis: Two Filipino lovers with different upbringings struggle to fulfill cultural and familial expectations, forcing them to face a crossroads in their relationship and individual identities.
How will the money be used?
The money will go towards paying the talented cast & crew, for the locations, equipment, catering, props, clothes, COVID PPE & tests and post-production (music, coloring, sound mixing).
Some of the money will be used to submit to film festivals such as Sundance, Tribeca, SXSW and international festivals in hopes of spreading the film to audiences far and wide.
Donating any amount will guarantee being in the credits and an Instagram story shoutout! :)
