It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Terrence Everett Brown, our beloved son, grandson, little brother, and uncle, who passed away following severe medical complications related to a seizure. His mother, who served as his full-time caregiver for many years, is now facing funeral and related expenses while grieving the loss of her son.

Terrence was surrounded by love throughout his life from his immediate family, to his church family, to an entire village of devoted “aunties” who helped lift and protect him. Diagnosed with epilepsy at the age of three, Terrence’s family advocated tirelessly for his care, standing by him through complex medical challenges and the daily limitations that epilepsy placed on his life. Despite their devotion and vigilance, Terrence’s life was tragically cut short.

A Life of Promise and Determination

A graduate of El Cerrito High School, Terrence pursued higher education with determination and pride. Aided by organizations like 100 Black Men of America and the Young Scholars Program he earned a full scholarship to Texas Southern University. As his medical condition became increasingly complicated, he made the difficult decision to step away from college to focus on his health.

Even then, Terrence remained hopeful and forward looking. He planned to become an entrepreneur and build a future rooted in independence and purpose.

The Immediate Need

Because of Terrence’s long standing medical condition, securing sufficient life insurance was difficult. His Life Insurance policy was cancelled; but not as a result of non-payment.

The Brown family is now facing the unexpected financial challenge of laying him to rest with care and respect.

Funds raised will help cover:

• Medical expenses

• Funeral and Burial services

• Help his mother stabilize, she's an only child & both of her parents are deceased. She's interviewing to return to work after being Terrence's dedicated caregiver.

The family is seeking $17,500, which will go directly toward ensuring Terrence is honored properly and that his loved ones are not left carrying this burden alone.

We tried for several weeks to get an Autopsy. Shipping him to another state was the only way due to a limited amount of Forensic Pathologists in the Bay Area. We wanted an understanding of how Epilepsy played a part during his time in the hospital, but decided to not go forward.

Due to Terrence's disability we preferred to lay him to rest in a cemetery because he suffered for over 30 years.

Looking Ahead: Honoring Terrence’s Legacy

At a future date, the family plans to establish a foundation in Terrence’s name to support individuals living with epilepsy creating safe, inclusive, and fun social experiences free from common seizure triggers. This vision reflects Terrence’s desire for community, connection, and a life lived fully despite limitations

The Brown family has endured multiple heartbreaking losses in recent years. In January 2020, Terrence lost his father. Just months later, in September 2020, he lost his grandmother Akiba Davis-Everett who was a giant in the community. After several years of helping care for his grandfather alongside his mother, his grandfather passed away in 2023.
