My golf club, shortly to be lost under the unrelenting wave of flats and houses is very near Maidenhead station, situated on the Great Western Mainline between Reading and Paddington. It is only a short walk up the hill from the station. When on the first tee you can hear the dulcet tones of an Elizabeth Line train’s doors beeping away as you picture your drive striping it’s way up the first fairway.

That has inspired me to see if any other golf courses in mainland Great Britain and the island of Ireland are as close, if not closer to a station.

After countless hours of research, information searches and using Google Maps, I’ve come up with a complete list (as far as I can tell) of every club and how far it is to and from the nearest rail station (be it rail, light rail, tram or underground).

I have also filmed “walk to the course” 1 minute videos available on Instagram, Facebook and YouTube which can give you an insight on just how close some of the courses are.

I would like to be able to raise some funds to be able to create some long-format videos of golf courses and itheir history with railways, golf in the London area including golf courses you can get to on a tube train (there are 22 within a mile!).

I would like to get my database published andpossibly develop a phone app.
