Goldie's family needs our help!

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Sarah and I’m fundraising for my friends Michelle and Jeffrey for the care of their newborn daughter, Goldie who has complex needs.

Michelle and Jeffrey are incredible humans. They are both the epitome of the saying 'heart of gold'. When you meet them you are immediately drawn to their warmth and kindness. Not surprisingly, they are also amazing parents.

Their first child Frankie (4) is sweeter than Chilliwack corn and was so proud to become a big sister in March of 2023 when Michelle and Jeff welcomed their second child, Goldie.

Goldie was born prematurely with serious medical complications that doctors were unable to diagnose. Over the next 4 months, they split their time between their home in Langley and Vancouver, where Goldie was being cared for in the NICU at Children's Hospital. Jeff and Michelle would alternate nights so one parent was always with Frankie and the other was with Goldie and the medical team. Just over 4 weeks ago, Goldie finally came home. While it has been a happy time for them having her home, it has also been an exhausting, frightening, and devastating ordeal.

After countless tests, surgeries, and round-the-clock monitoring, we've finally learned that Goldie sustained a brain injury at some point in the womb - the long-lasting effects of which we don't know, but we do know that it is classified as ‘life threatening.’

Goldie has extremely complex needs, requiring lots of medical equipment and supplies to keep her alive. Now that they are without a medical team, Jeff and Michelle are caring for her around the clock on their own with nursing support provided only part-time on some evenings.

Goldie is fed through a feeding tube, requires nebulizers, repositioning, and constant oxygen level and heart rate monitoring. Michelle and Jeffrey are struggling to keep up with the necessary and constant medical care that is required every hour of the day and night. To supplement Goldie’s nursing support would relieve them for a few hours a couple days a week so they can care for their other daughter Frankie, their dogs, and their own personal and household needs. This type of in-house nursing care unfortunately requires funds they don’t currently have.

Because of how fragile Goldie is, the doctors have stressed that they ‘enjoy your time with her’ as they don’t know what her future holds. This makes it incredibly difficult to think about rushing back to work even once it’s officially time to go back. Until they sort out more nursing support, their income is limited and there is no timeline on how long that will be the case.

Your donation will help pay for desperately needed nursing support which will significantly improve Goldie's life and will help alleviate some of the immense financial and emotional exhaustion this family is under.

Even a small donation will help make a positive impact on their lives at this extremely difficult time. And if you are unable to donate, please share.

Please help me in supporting this family. Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart.
