Golden Slipper Camp-Sponsor a Child

My name is Rachel Bernstein and I spend my summers at a sleep away camp called Westmont. I spend 7 amazing weeks at camp playing sports, having fun and participating in all that camp offers. I have made the best memories there that I will treasure forever. I am very lucky to be able to go to a camp as amazing as Westmont, but it costs a lot of money. Unfortunately, not all kids can afford to go to camp. A special camp called Golden Slipper allows less fortunate kids to have an amazing sleep away camp experience. 

Golden Slipper is a not-for-profit overnight summer camp established in 1948, where kids sign up and receive scholarships based on their financial needs.  Over 600 kids ages 7-15 attend each summer and more than 100 professionally trained staff from around the world supervise and care for the children's every need.  At camp the kids are offered over 30 activities such as basketball, biking, boating, a climbing wall, campouts, crafts, and more. They have cabins, a mess hall, a pool, a lake (with a beautiful waterfront!) and many other camping facilities.  All of their activities and meals are paid for and run by donations.   

I am turning thirteen and having a bat mitzvah this year. I have decided to do a mitzvah and give back to those less fortunate than myself. I am collecting donations so that I can sponsor one camper’s entire session at camp.  I chose to work for camp Golden Slipper because I want others to have the same experiences that I have enjoyed. It is a special thing to make someone else happy and know that you changed their life forever. Camp has done that for me and if I can do that for someone else, I will be proud and grateful. I’ve grown up with camp and I know I am lucky to have this opportunity. I want to be able to share with someone else this amazing feeling.

My family and I volunteered this past fall to help clean up the camp and get it ready for the winter.  I made a difference by donating my time, doing jobs to help the camp. Each minute, each dollar, each single act of kindness makes a difference in the lives of so many.  I love camp every summer, so I would like to make as big a difference as possible, to help other kids have unforgettable summers! I hope you will help me to change the lives of so many children.
