My wonderful first grade teacher, Lisa Buchholz, won the 2018 Golden Apple Award for excellence in teaching.  An amazing achievement and honor. 
 The award includes a sabbatical to attend classes for 8 weeks at Northwestern.  The cost of the classes is covered and Mrs. Buchholz salary  but the cost to replace Mrs. Buchholz in the class room is not covered.  The D41 Board of Education voted last night not to pay for the coverage in the classroom.  Mrs. Buchholz will have to cover that cost.  
I do not think that is right.  The award should not cost the recipientand the school district should support it's teachers.  

The experience and learnings that Mrs. Buchholz can bring back to the district will be invaluable.
