This GoFundMe is a community effort to support Shauna and Austin Golay with funding for medical expenses, transportation, food, and other essentials while they continue to go through this ordeal with Mason's infant brain cancer diagnosis on a day by day basis.

On September 6th, 2023, Shauna and Austin took their 4 month old son, Mason, into the ER for a fever and diarrhea. They were sent to Children's Hospital of Atlanta (CHOA) in Atlanta, Georgia, because Mason had some erratic arm movements. The doctor's thought Mason was having a seizure, and he was admitted into the hospital to do an EEG overnight and an MRI the following day.

On September 7th, 2023, Mason's MRI was completed, and we found out the most devastating news: Mason was diagnosed with a brain stem tumor (glioma).

Immediately following the diagnosis, Mason underwent two brain surgeries. The first surgery was to insert a pressure-relieving catheter into his head to release increasing brain fluid pressure and the second surgery was performed to drain the cyst that surrounded the tumor causing pressure, as well. The cyst fluid was sampled, but the sample test results were unable to definitively determine Mason's tumor type. At the time of the second surgery, CHOA did not recommend or perform a biopsy on the tumor (collect a small sample of the tumor) due to Mason's increased risk of bleeding from the brain stem area as a result of the surgery.

As Mason's journey has continued, he has initiated chemotherapy treatment and made it through 2 rounds of treatment. As well, on Friday, October 20th, 2023, Mason underwent a third brain surgery to release increasing brain fluid pressure and biopsy the tumor. The surgery was successful, and soon after Mason was now breathing on his own. Since the surgery, Mason has steadily recovered. He has started to show more of his beautiful personality to those closest to him and caring for him. Rehabilitation of many types -- physical, occupational, respiratory, etc. -- will continue daily for Mason has he continues to recover at the hospital. The doctors and nurses at CHOA could not be more expert or kind in their care for Mason, and we are grateful for their help.

The results of the biopsy are pending.
