Meet my father's dog, Goku. During a recent trip to Nevada to help my father with medical issues, his dog Goku got lost. Goku was gone for almost a month. I stayed in Nevada to look for him since he had been seen around the facility my father was at. I went to that area day after day until finally, we found each other. He whined with excitement and licked my face, something he had never done before. Goku was limping on his rear right leg when I found him and had lost 30 lbs. I brought him back to South Carolina and took him to his veterinarian. He didn't have any broken bones, but at this point, he started to develop a lesion on that leg. The vet cleaned and wrapped it; $800.00+ later. We were told to bring him back three times a week to have his leg re-wrapped, $50.00 per visit. After several visits and a week of antibiotics, the wound was getting worse. I noticed he started having other spots develop on his left leg, side, top of tail, and under his tail. We were told to take Goku to the ER. At the ER, the vet said they recommend the dermatologist in the next building. The next day, I took Goku to the dermatologist where they took a biopsy. That bill is $1700.00, and we are awaiting the results of the culture. The vets believe he may have contracted a fungal infection while in Nevada called coccidioidomycosis, or valley fever. The tests are ongoing and I will keep you updated.
